Weight Loss

Of Headspace and Health

So I went to Amsterdam last weekend for a catch up and celebration with my girlfriends – we all turned 40 this year! It was a great experience, and let’s just say that we behaved in ways that wouldn’t normally fit in with the “mum life”. Like getting up at 11am, and having a 2 hour brunch. With waffles. So many waffles. But the biggest difference from being away was just the sheer amount of headspace.

The top 3 stupidest fitness gadgets…

I’ve a treat for you today… Facebook has obviously worked out that one of my ‘interests’ is Fitness. So I get treated to a whole bunch of really, reaaaallly, stupid fitness props. I think its even worse because I’m over 40 too. Advertisers target over 40, women, into fitness with a whole load of crap. I’ve never had an advert for a Kettlebell for example… Anyhow, so I’m sharing the joy today. Read on for a laugh…

My Favourite Exercise at the Moment

And one you should all be doing! If you’ve been training with me recently, you’ll have no doubt come across it in your sessions.  I’m talking of course about the…

Your Willpower isn’t the Problem

I hear about will power and motivation all the time… Often in the form of: I haven’t got the will power to get to the gym 4 times a week. I need motivation to train for a 10km. I’ve joined a gym but I need motivation to get there after work. But what I’d like to be hearing, is more about habits.

How Often Do You Work Out?

Simple question. How often do you work out? Now, go back over your diary for the last 4-5 weeks and actually count the sessions you’ve completed. ? Bet ya the numbers are not the same.

New Mums: Are you making these workout mistakes?

I was having a conversation with a friend recently. She’s recently had a baby and is keen to “get her old body back”. Hands up if you’ve been there. I certainly have. It took a long time for me to wrap my head around the fact that my “old body” was gone and indeed irrelevant. Say hello to your new body: your post-baby body. This new body does not look or feel the same as the old one, but it is marvellous and amazing. It has grown life!

Are you drinking enough?

I mean water, of course! I was reminded of the importance of water recently.

I’ve started working with a new trainer and he asked me if I drink enough water… “Of course I do!” I thought.

Throw those scales away!

Do you use weighing scales as an indicator of weight loss or gain? ? If so, how do you find it? Do you log regularly? Is the number that the scales point to predictable? Reliable?

I’m going to give you some reasons why weighing yourself might not be the best tracker for changes in weight.

How to beat sleep deprivation hunger

I’m sure you all know how hard it is to eat well when you’re tired. Been out last night? Baby kept you up? Chances are you spend today rummaging the cupboards and looking for all of the carbs! But do you understand why? It’s all to do with your hormones. Lack of sleep causes disruption to your hunger hormones ghrelin and leptin. These 2 hormones play an important role in controlling appetite and satiety.

Why Cutting Calories Doesn’t Always Work

“Summer is coming, I need to lose weight”… How many of you are thinking this right now? And how many of you are also thinking, “I’ll go on a diet, eat less, cut down my calories”? It’s pretty typical. Mоѕt people when thіnking about lоѕіng wеіght, that’s thе fіrѕt wоrd that comes to mіnd. But what if I told you that most of my 121 client are seeing great results by eating MORE rather than less?
