It’s been a while since we’ve had a kit blog. So here goes – 3 bits of kit I can’t do without.

And what a difference this time. It was blazing hot. Which plays to my strengths. Cos you know I’m a Malteser…
This was the Surrey Master Championships so I knew I stood a good chance of getting some medals. The questions would be what and how…

Conversations that wind me up – Episode #643
Note: this is a fictional conversation. But one that is inspired by several conversations I have in my life as a PT.
Chris: Hi, how are you?
Fictional Mum: I’m OK. Well, sort of. I’ve still got that problem with my [Choose one: hip / back / knee / neck] which means I can’t do [Choose one: sleep / run / exercise / drive]
C: Oh, no. That’s a shame. How long has this been an issue now?
FM: Well a couple of weeks, I think. Actually probably more… It’s been a least since before xyz and that was 6 weeks ago. So it must be a couple of months now.
C: That’s a long time. What have you been doing about it?
FM: Mmmmmmm. Well not much. Resting, I suppose…

Squats!! One of my all time favourite exercises. Pretty much always included in my programmes, in one form or another. And most of you who have attended a session with me will have at some point heard me say: LOWER!!!
But the question arises, How low is low enough?
And of course, the answer isn’t simple. But rather “It depends”

Why become a personal trainer?
The other day I was chatting to a new client about how I came to be a personal trainer. It’s a fun story. So I thought I’d share. Plus, it talks about me, and I love talking about me!
I first started training to be a PT around 10 years ago. In those days, you actually had to attend a course in person. And it lasts about 3-4 months in total. (Today you can get the same qualification online or in a weekend, practically. Ho hum…)
At the time, my life couldn’t have been more different to what it is now…

Last week I wrote about some of the reasons it’s so hard to consistently do the things we KNOW are good for us.
And having spent more time thinking about it, I think Reason #4 is really the crux of the matter…

Resolution Revolution!
‘Tis the season, of course. Everyone is talking about Resolutions. I’m sure you’ve seen the blogs and the posts.
Should you make one or some?
How best to make them stick?
Whether we shouldn’t be making resolutions anyway…
Is it pointless? What % of resolutions will have been abandoned by when?
And on and on…
My view is that with any big “ending” like the end of a calendar year, the training year or the school year, it is helpful to take stock, think about how things went, where you were last year? Progress made or progress you had hoped for but not made…
I’ve a treat for you today… Facebook has obviously worked out that one of my ‘interests’ is Fitness. So I get treated to a whole bunch of really, reaaaallly, stupid fitness props. I think its even worse because I’m over 40 too. Advertisers target over 40, women, into fitness with a whole load of crap. I’ve never had an advert for a Kettlebell for example… Anyhow, so I’m sharing the joy today. Read on for a laugh…

I hear about will power and motivation all the time… Often in the form of: I haven’t got the will power to get to the gym 4 times a week. I need motivation to train for a 10km. I’ve joined a gym but I need motivation to get there after work. But what I’d like to be hearing, is more about habits.

People are often surprised when they hear that I wake up at 5:30am most mornings, and wonder how I do it. So I thought I’d quickly write up my morning routine.
