Meet the Melita trainers
Chris Sciberras
Sports and fitness have always been a huge part of my life. I spent most of my teens and twenties on an athletics track, rolling around in a sand pit! I was pretty good at long jump and held various records in Malta, where I grew up.
Unfortunately, a serious back injury ended my jumping career prematurely, but now I know that this injury has been critical in my development as a trainer. The pain, the mobility issues and the weakness I experienced helped me to align to my purpose. And that purpose is to help women to achieve strength and pain-free mobility. Because we can choose strong. And we should strive for it. And not be restricted by weak cores, dodgy knees, restricted shoulders or a fear of breaking.
So, after a stint working in the City as a management consultant, I started my personal training journey. That was about 13 years ago. And since then, I’ve worked with hundreds of women (mostly mums!) and helped them to create the body and lifestyle they’ve always wanted, through nutrition, weight loss, strength training and even mindset fixes! Yes, I’ve acquired a whole swath of interests (and qualifications!) in this journey.
These days, when I’m not coaching clients or dealing with my kids, you’re most likely to find me out with my dog, lifting some heavy stuff, or guess what? Rolling around in a sand pit! Because I did eventually find my way back to athletics and currently complete in the W40-44 category for Long Jump and Triple Jump!
Paula
Hi, my name is Paula and I’m a mum of 3 teenage children and my little dog Eddie.
I started my career working in the corporate IT sector before working for the NHS. As the children got older I found myself increasingly frustrated with life behind a desk and decided it was time to make a change. With that in mind, I left my job to re-evaluate where I wanted to be and the rest as they say....
So here I am several years later having totally retrained as a Personal Trainer, Run Coach and Pilates Instructor. I get to spend my days (mostly) outside working out with others, helping, inspiring and motivating them to reach their goals and dreams. What more could you ask for in a day’s work.
Being outside is what I love best and where I am at my happiest. If I'm not out walking with my dog, you'll find me running around some of the gorgeous trails we have around us getting filthy in muddy puddles and more.
When it comes to training you, I'm a strong believer in working with your own body to create movement, mobility and strength. Some of the toughest workouts can come from within. What can you expect from a session with me? A little cardio, a little strength, some dynamic movement and lots of smiles!
Rachel
The unlikely sport enthusiast. I was not a sporty kid at school, and growing up in my teens I only saw exercise as something you did to lose weight. Thank heaven for University and the friend who invited me to try rowing with them. In came training for purpose, structure and ultimately joy! I was in the sport for nearly 20 years and I tried my hand at everything - singles, doubles, fours, eights, coxing and coaching. I just loved being part of the community.
After University I was still rowing and had a full time office job working in events and marketing but the office life wasn't for me. In 2017 I retrained to become a personal trainer and took up Olympic Weightlifting in place of rowing.
Through my retraining I've had the opportunity for further training and I can be considered a rehab coach and mindset coach. My rehab work centres around two very different conditions; osteoarthritis and MS. To help those who would otherwise choose to exercise, to find what they need to make a difference to their health, is hugely rewarding for me.
We are becoming increasingly aware of how important physical and mental health are, especially with how they impact each other. For me, as a coach that's really important to remember. It means I can help my clients get the best out of themselves so that they can feel proud of their achievements and successful in their goals.
If you can have fun and be productive, for me, that's a win!

What do Melita members say?
Love, love, love these classes! You work hard but it’s fun and Chris always keeps you motivated. Plenty of variety, weights, cardio and a great bunch of ladies to exercise with.

Great workouts and lots of laughs, this is such a good way to exercise. Chris really motivates everyone and gives options for all. I always feel great afterwards.
