Why more knowledge isn’t the answer

Here’s a fun experiment. In the last month this new AI bot has hit the world by storm.

People are impressed at how good it is.

To test it out, I asked for “tips for women to lose weight” and this is what it came up with. In literal seconds.

It’s pretty good right? I mean there’s not even any typos or grammar mistakes.

This AI bot gleans its outputs from the web, of course. So this is all information that is available to us. We “know” it.

And yet.

By any measure, we are failing as a society to achieve healthy weight or movement targets. Let’s assume we all agree that being overweight is detrimental to our health. And that being a healthy weight is something to aspire to.

Then, if we have all this collective information and knowledge, why are we so bad at it?

In short, there’s a disconnection between knowledge and the actions we take. So knowledge is just a tiny fraction of the battle.

The longer answer is in this week’s newsletter and I’ll post a link to it at some point!
